During an interview with Pinkvilla, Bollywood star Aamir Khan revealed a very personal aspect of his life that explores the intricacies of family, mental health, and self-discovery.

Speaking candidly, Aamir shared his experience with therapy during a turbulent time in his marriage with Reena Dutta. The couple, who were navigating separation, sought professional help in an attempt to make sense of their struggles.

“Jab Reena aur main alag hore the toh uss waqt kareeban dedh saal ek Marriage Counselor key paas gye the, mera pehla experience tha therapy, councelling ko lekar aur mujhe aur mujhe yaad hai ki main uske sakt khilaaf tha,” (When Reena and I were separating, we went to a marriage counsellor for about a year and a half. It was my first experience with therapy, with counselling, and I remember I was completely against it) he confessed.

Aamir acknowledged that his initial experience with therapy was greeted with emotional hesitancy and scepticism. But it also marked a sea change, leading to more in-depth reflection. He faced a painful realisation about his role as a father during those times of introspection.

“Yeh sab sochne kay doraan mujhe ehsaas hua ki main apne bacho ke saath maine itna waqt nhi bitaya hai jab voh bade hore the.” (While thinking about all this, I realised I didn’t spend enough time with my children while they were growing up.)

Known for his intense dedication to cinema, Khan acknowledged how his passion, while artistically fulfilling, had inadvertently distanced him from his loved ones. “Uss waqt main itna gusse main tha apne aap se aur voh gussa main ek Tarah se cinema main nikaal rha tha, mujhe uss waqt laga ki yeh cheez ne mujhe apni family se door rakha.” (At that time, I was so angry with myself, and I was channelling that anger into cinema. I felt that this very thing had distanced me from my family.)

In addition to showing vulnerability, Aamir's remarks also demonstrate a growing understanding of mental health issues and the unsaid costs that frequently come with ambition and stardom. His story provides an uncommon window into the psychological toll of achievement and emphasises the value of equilibrium, lessons that extend well beyond the movie theatre.

By speaking up, the actor serves as a reminder to everyone that acceptance is often the first step towards healing and that it's never too late to get back in touch with those who are most important to you.

On the work front, Aamir Khan is gearing up for the sequel of Taare Zameen par, Saitaare Zameen par alongside Genelia D'souza.
