A viral video showing a heated clash between Pakistani police and army personnel has exposed deepening cracks within the country’s security establishment. The footage comes at a time when Pakistan’s military faces growing credibility issues, both at home and abroad, amid the diplomatic fallout from the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 people dead.
The viral footage shows a tense standoff in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Pashtun police officers blocked a Pakistan Army convoy from entering a police station, culminating in a police officer pointing a weapon at army personnel.
"Dimag kharab hai? Udhar Kashmir bhejo, idhar kya kar rahe ho? Aapka General bhi aa jaye phir bhi kuch nahi kar sakte ho (Are you out of your mind? Send them to Kashmir. What are you doing here? Even if your General comes, he cannot do anything)," the officer can be heard saying in the purported video.
Moneycontrol does not verify the authenticity and origin of the video.
The confrontational exchange continued with the police officer declaring, “Aapke General ko bhi hum boot kin ok pe rakhte hain…”
Just days ago, a video of violent confrontation between Pakistani police and army personnel had gone viral on social media. Pakistan Army's media wing said that an "unfortunate incident" had occurred in Bahawalnagar and ensured a "fair and deliberate inquiry" to determine responsibility for violation of laws.
The video comes amid reports of unrest within the Pakistani military amid apprehension of retaliatory action by Indian Army. Several media reports have also questioned the conspicuous absence of Pakistani Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir and his family.
While it may or may not have any relation to Munir’s reported disappearance, The Resistance Front (TRF) – a proxy for Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, which initially claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, later backtracked on its claim.
Amid high-level security meetings in New Delhi, Pakistan’s defence minister Khawaja Asif has issued statements, predicting a military action by the Indian Army.
