Google is hosting an event early this year with a dedicated Android event ahead of its annual developer conference, Google I/O. The company has announced The Android Show: I/O Edition, a virtual event happening on May 13 at 10:30 PM IST, where it will reveal what’s new in the world of Android.

This comes as a welcome move for Android fans, especially after last year’s Google I/O, where Android 15 was somewhat overshadowed by a flood of AI and Gemini-related announcements. By giving Android its own moment in the spotlight, Google seems keen to bring the focus back to its flagship mobile operating system.

In a teaser video, Android President Sameer Samat hints that viewers can expect to “see what’s new on Android.” While exact details are under wraps, it’s likely we’ll get a closer look at Android 16, which is already available in beta for Pixel devices. The upcoming version brings features like more advanced haptic feedback and better control over photo permissions, making it a step forward in both user experience and privacy.

Last year, Android 15 introduced features like satellite messaging and low-light camera improvements, but didn’t make major headlines due to the dominance of AI announcements. This time, Android gets its own dedicated platform—possibly indicating that big things are on the way.
