AIMIM Chief Owaisi slams Pakistan, says targeting people based on religion is like ISIS

Published on 28/04/2025 07:11 AM

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi strongly criticized Pakistan on Sunday over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, warning that a country cannot claim nuclear power status while killing innocent people and expect no consequences.

Speaking at a public event in Parbhani, Maharashtra, Owaisi said, “Pakistan always talks about being a nuclear power; they need to remember that if they enter another country and kill innocent civilians, that country will not remain silent.” He added, No matter the government, by killing our people on our land, and targeting them based on religion, what 'deen' are you talking about?... You have acted like the ISIS."

He also emphasized the need to support the people of Kashmir, stating, “If Kashmir is our integral part, then Kashmiris are also our integral part... We cannot doubt the Kashmiris..."

The April 22 terror incident near the renowned Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam led to the deaths of 26 people, including a national from Nepal. This attack marks one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which resulted in deaths of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been on the ground since April 23, with top officers gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Meanwhile, the Indian Army has stepped up its operations to find and eliminate the terrorists behind the attack.

Following the attack, nationwide protests have broken out, with citizens demanding tougher measures against Pakistan over its alleged involvement in supporting terrorism.

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met on April 23 to discuss the attack in detail. They strongly condemned the attack, offered condolences to the victims' families, and wished for the quick recovery of those injured. They also highlighted that the attack happened right after successful elections in the Union Territory and during ongoing economic growth, which could suggest connections from across the border.

As part of its response, India has chosen to withdraw its Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the High Commission in Islamabad. Five support staff members will also be removed, lowering the total staff at the mission from 55 to 30 by May 1.
