This sacred day is ruled by Lord Vishnu, the preserver in the Hindu Trinity. According to Hinduism, Treta Yuga—the second age among the four Yugas—began on Akshaya Tritiya.

Interestingly, Akshaya Tritiya often coincides with Parashurama Jayanti, the birthday of Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. However, depending on the beginning time of Tritiya Tithi, Parashurama Jayanti may be observed a day earlier.

In Vedic astrology, Akshaya Tritiya is regarded as a Sarva Siddhi Muhurat—a time free from any malefic influences. It is one of the three days in the Hindu calendar (along with Yugadi and Vijay Dashami) that do not require a special Muhurat to perform auspicious tasks.
