Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, is one of the most sacred and auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. In 2025, Tritiya Tithi begins on April 29 (at 5:31 PM) and ends on April 30 (at 2:12 PM). As per traditional customs and Panchang calculations, the most auspicious part of the day falls on April 30 when Tritiya Tithi is active during the morning hours. Hence, Akshaya Tritiya will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 30, as this is when most devotees perform rituals, charity, and gold purchases. Falling during Shukla Paksha Tritiya in the month of Vaishakha, this day holds immense spiritual and cultural significance for millions across India and the Hindu world.
What Makes Akshaya Tritiya Special?
The word Akshaya means “never diminishing” in Sanskrit, symbolising unending prosperity, success, and good fortune. Any spiritual practice, charity, or investment made on this day is believed to yield everlasting results. Whether it is Japa (chanting), Yajna (rituals), Pitra-Tarpan (ancestral offerings), or Dan-Punya (charity and good deeds) — everything done on Akshaya Tritiya is believed to bring eternal blessings.
Akshaya Tritiya: A Day for Gold and Prosperity
One of the most popular customs on Akshaya Tritiya is buying gold. This tradition is based on the belief that gold purchased on this day will grow in value and bring continued prosperity to the family. Jewellery shops often witness a surge in footfall, as people consider it an ideal time to invest in precious metals.
Interestingly, this year’s Akshaya Tritiya is considered even more auspicious because it falls on a Wednesday under the Rohini Nakshatra, a combination that is believed to amplify its positive effects.
Akshaya Tritiya: Divine Significance
The day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver in the Hindu Trinity. It also marks the beginning of the Treta Yuga, according to Hindu mythology. Moreover, Parashurama Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, is usually observed on the same day. However, depending on the starting time of the Tritiya Tithi, Parashurama Jayanti may sometimes fall a day earlier.
According to Vedic astrology, Akshaya Tritiya is one of the few days in the Hindu calendar considered completely free from all malefic influences. Along with Yugadi and Vijayadashami, Akshaya Tritiya is among the three rare occasions that do not require a special Muhurat (auspicious timing) to begin any important work — be it a marriage, housewarming, or starting a new venture.
With its powerful promise of prosperity and its alignment with divine energy, Akshaya Tritiya on April 30, 2025, is a day to be celebrated with faith and good intentions. Whether you're buying gold, performing rituals, or starting something new, this is the day when the universe is believed to bless every good action with lasting success.
