In a major boost for India’s naval power, the Donald Trump administration has approved the sale of key maritime technology worth $131 million. The sale of the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness and related components was given a green signal by the Trump administration, the Defence Security Cooperation Agency said in a notification to the US Congress.
Giving the details of the maritime tech, the notification said that New Delhi had sought to buy SeaVision software, access to SeaVision documentation and Technical Assistance Field Team training. The deal also includes other aspects such as logistical support as well.
The US agency also added that the maritime sale will deepen the Indo-US ties. The notification also lauded India as a ‘major defence partner’ which is an ‘important force’ of peace, political stability in the South Asia and Indo-Pacific regions.
"India will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region," the Congressional notification further added.
The development comes amid the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the horrific Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir last week. The terrorists were trained in Pakistan, probe agencies say. Pakistan has refuted the charges. In last seven days, Pakistani forces have violated the ceasefire at the Line of Control for record 17 times, Indian troops say.
