Anthropic vs Trump: Dario Amodei wins court order to block US admin ban on AI toolAnthropic wins court order from Judge Rita F. Lin blocking Trump administration ban on its AI, as legal battle over military AI, national security and future sabotage claims grows.By CNBCTV18.com March 27, 2026, 7:08:15 AM IST (Published)3 Min ReadAnthropic, the AI major led by Dario Amodei, won a court order blocking a Trump administration ban on government use of the company’s artificial intelligence technology.
This Trump administration prohibition on the government's use of Anthropic's AI technology has now been overturned by this court ruling after the Claude chatbot manufacturer claimed the action would cost it billions of dollars in lost revenue.
A preliminary injunction was given by US District Judge Rita F. Lin on Thursday, delaying the administration's intention to cut all connections with Anthropic while a legal battle takes place in a federal court in San Francisco. To allow the government to file an appeal, she suspended the order for seven days.

Earlier this month, the company filed a lawsuit to prevent the Defence Department from declaring that Anthropic posed a threat to the US supply chain, intensifying a high-stakes battle over protections for military AI technology.
The government claimed it couldn't accept any limitations, citing national security, while the firm sought guarantees that its AI wouldn't be used for autonomous weapon deployment or widespread surveillance of Americans.
Lin questioned the ban's justification, stating that it didn't seem to be aimed at national security concerns.
Anthropic praised the judge's decision in a statement. "Our focus remains on working productively with the government to ensure all Americans benefit from safe, reliable AI, even though this case was necessary to protect Anthropic, our customers, and our partners," the business stated.
Anthropic contends that the legal principles at issue impact all federal contractors whose opinions the government finds objectionable and that it is being excluded from government contracts because it disagrees with the administration.
The Trump administration has vowed a legal fight to oust Anthropic from all US government agencies.
A government attorney stated during a hearing before Lin earlier this week that trust is a crucial element in any relationship the military has with businesses that supply it with services and that Anthropic undermined that trust during contract negotiations by attempting to dictate Pentagon policies regarding the use of AI technology.
The attorney contended that the government is worried about Anthropic's potential for "future sabotage," which may include modifications to the AI software the agency buys from the business.
However, Lin stated in her decision that the US Justice Department lacked a "legitimate basis" to conclude that Anthropic may "become a saboteur" as a result of its strong position on limitations on its AI technology.
