Banks on May 12 (Monday) are closed in 14 states of the country on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. Buddha Purnima is also known as Vesak. On this day, Buddhists celebrate the birth of Gautam Buddha, and it is a public holiday.
Tripura, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Delhi, Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh.
This was the long 4-day weekend for many states from May 9 to May 12. Banks in West Bengal remained closed due to Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti. May 10 (second Saturday) and May 11 (Sunday) were weekend holidays, and May 12 is Buddha Purnima holiday.
May 16: Banks in Sikkim will be closed on May 16 for Sikkim State Day.May 26: Tripura will observe Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birth anniversary on May 26.May 29: Himachal Pradesh will mark Maharana Pratap Jayanti on May 29.
