In light of heavy downpours in Mumbai and several adjoining areas, GST authorities have allowed businesses to file their GSTR-3B returns for July until an extended deadline of August 27.
Indirect tax assessees are normally required to file their income tax returns for a month by the 20th day of the next month.
Businesses required to file their returns originally by August 20 now have one more week, till August 27, to file the returns.

This extended deadline is applicalbe to businesses located in the following regions:
The new deadline is due to "incessant rains and disruption of public life", the CGST Mumbai Zone office wrote on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter).
GSTR-3B is a simplified summary return filed by businesses registered under the GST system.
This return -- filed using Form GSTR-3B -- enables assessees to report their tax liabilities to relevant authorities, giving an overview of sales, input tax credit (ITC) claims and net tax payable.
This return excludes invoice-level details.
It is mandatory for all registered GST taxpayers to file their returns.
Timely filing ensures compliance, transparency and seamless ITC utilisation, avoiding interest or penalties.
On Wednesday, heavy rains continued across Mumbai for the fourth day in a row, disrupting normal life in the city.
National weather office IMD has issued an 'orange alert' for Mumbai, predicting precipitation in the 'heavy' to 'very heavy' categories across the metro.
Meanwhile, residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid flood-prone areas.
