In a regulatory filing dated February 22, 2026, the private sector lender said the clarification was being issued in response to certain incoming queries regarding bidding for a stake in CreditAccess Grameen.

“The Bank has neither submitted nor is planning to submit any bid for a stake in CreditAccess Grameen Limited,” the bank said in its communication to stock exchanges.

Axis Bank further stated that there is no material event or information in this matter that requires disclosure under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

The bank added that it has made and will continue to make disclosures in compliance with its obligations under the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The clarification was signed by Sandeep Poddar, Company Secretary of Axis Bank, and was addressed to both the National Stock Exchange of India Limited and BSE Limited.

Earlier, Amitabh Chaudhry, MD and CEO of Axis Bank, had also dismissed speculation around a possible bid for CreditAccess Grameen.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Chaudhry said reports about the deal were “unsubstantiated comments and baseless rumours”, while confirming that the bank is only at a very early stage of evaluating the opportunity.

“We are in a very early stage of the evaluation. We have not even decided whether we’ll take the next step,” he said.

The statement comes amid speculation in the market about potential consolidation moves in the microfinance sector.
