To "oppose the anti-worker, anti-farmer, and anti-national pro-corporate policies of the government," 10 primary trade unions and their associates have called for a general strike, or "Bharat Bandh," today, July 8.

Over 25 crore workers are expected to join the nationwide strike on Wednesday. They will be from sectors like banking, insurance, postal services, coal mining, and construction, potentially disrupting key services across India, according to a joint forum of central trade unions.

Important public services and industries are anticipated to be severely disrupted by the strike.

"Banking, postal services, coal mining, factories, and state transport services will be affected," said Harbhajan Singh Sidhu of the Hind Mazdoor Sabha.

As per bandh organisers, financial services will be affected. They said that the strike includes employees from public sector banks and the cooperative banking sector, which may impact banking operations.

Schools, colleges, and private offices will remain open and operate normally. However, in some regions, normal operations may be disrupted due to transport issues.

As trade unions and other organisations stage protest marches and road rallies in multiple locations, there may be an impact on public transportation, taxis, and app-based taxi services.
