The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday, October 6, announced the schedule for the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, setting polling dates for 6 and 11 November, with counting to take place on November 14. The announcement was made by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi, who said all necessary preparations were underway to ensure smooth, transparent and peaceful polling across the state.
Bihar will see polling across 243 Assembly constituencies, with 7.43 crore registered voters, including around 14 lakh first-time voters, the CEC said. He added that the purification of the electoral roll, a major exercise undertaken after 22 years, was completed on September 30, 2025.
"The purification ensures that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible person remains on the list," Gyanesh Kumar said. The final voter list prepared after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has been handed over to all recognised political parties.

The CEC emphasised that the Election Commission's top priority is to maintain law and order and ensure fair conduct of the polls. "We want to tell the voters of Bihar that elections will be conducted in a transparent manner while maintaining complete impartiality," he said. He added that Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) would be deployed in advance as part of confidence-building measures. "All officers have been directed to act in an absolutely impartial way. Strict vigil will be maintained at all checkpoints to prevent illegal movement of cash, liquor and narcotics," he said.
The Election Commission has also drawn up a detailed plan to counter fake news and misinformation on any medium or platform during the election period. "Any attempt to spread false information will be countered promptly," the CEC said.
In a move aimed at improving voter experience, the ECI has announced a mobile phone deposit facility at polling stations. "Serial and part numbers will be displayed prominently for easy voter verification," Gyanesh Kumar said, adding that the Commission has taken several steps to make the voting process more accessible and convenient. The Election Commission emphasised that it aims to conduct the Bihar Assembly elections efficiently, ensuring high voter participation and adherence to all norms of transparency and fairness.
