The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Divisional Engineer of Northern Railways, along with a subordinate Trackman, in a bribery case involving illegal gratification of Rs 34,000. The duo was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from a railway contractor in Chandausi, Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to a CBI statement, the arrested engineer has been identified as Sanjeev Saxena, posted with the Northern Railways, while his aide is Akash, a Trackman. The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by a private contractor whose firm had been awarded a track fitting tender by the Moradabad Division on January 19, 2024.
The complainant alleged that Saxena demanded a 2% commission—amounting to Rs 34,000—for clearing pending bills worth over Rs 17.57 lakh. Based on the complaint, the CBI registered a case on July 4, 2025, and laid a trap.
Both officials were apprehended on the night of July 4 while allegedly accepting the bribe. They were formally arrested after questioning and are scheduled to be produced before the Special Judge, CBI Court No. 1, Ghaziabad, on July 5.
The investigation is currently underway.
