The Central government is set to table several key legislative bills in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, which begins on July 21 and will continue until August 21. The session is expected to be a packed one, with major financial, administrative, and regulatory reforms on the agenda.
Among the significant bills lined up for introduction and passage in the Lok Sabha are the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025. These are aimed at streamlining the tax structure and ensuring regional parity in tax administration.
Additionally, the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, and the Income Tax Bill, 2025, are expected to be taken up for passage during the session.
In a bid to modernise and digitise Parliamentary functioning, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has introduced several new initiatives under the leadership of the Lok Sabha Speaker. These include the installation of dedicated multimedia conferencing devices (MMDs) at every member's seat, allowing MPs to digitally mark attendance, which is expected to save time and increase efficiency.
Further promoting linguistic inclusivity, Parliamentary business documents are now being published in 12 regional languages — Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu — using AI-based translation tools. These are being made available in real-time via the Digital Sansad portal (https://sansad.in) to ensure better accessibility for both MPs and citizens.
Earlier, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu had approved the Monsoon Session schedule. Notably, there will be no sittings on August 13 and 14 in view of Independence Day celebrations.
Meanwhile, the 268th session of the Rajya Sabha will also commence on July 21, as per the official Parliamentary bulletin. Summons to all members have been issued digitally through the Members' Portal, marking another step in the shift towards paperless governance.
