Closing Bell: Bulls stay in charge! Sensex, Nifty rise on earnings boost

Stock Market Closing Bell: Indian equities ended Monday’s session on a firm note, with benchmark indices extending gains amid upbeat sentiment around second-quarter earnings.

The BSE Sensex closed at 84,950.95, up 388.17 points (0.46 per cent ), while the Nifty 50 settled at 26,013.45, rising 103.40 points (0.40 per cent ).

Market breadth remained positive, supported by strong midcap and smallcap action.

Blue-chip stocks led the rally, with several index heavyweights contributing to the day’s gains. Eternal surged 2.03 per cent, topping the Sensex gainers, followed by Maruti (+1.34 per cent ), Kotak Bank (+1.26 per cent ), and M&M (+1.11 per cent ).

IT names such as Tech Mahindra (+1.06 per cent ) and HCL Tech (+0.69 per cent ) also added support. Banking majors like HDFC Bank (+0.82 per cent ), Axis Bank (+0.55 per cent ), ICICI Bank (+0.42 per cent ), and SBI (+0.53 per cent ) recorded steady gains, helping Nifty Bank climb 0.76 per cent to 58,962.70, close to its 52-week high of 58,979.85.

Power and energy counters were also in the green, with Power Grid (+0.77 per cent ), NTPC (+0.55 per cent ), and Bajaj Finserv (+0.72 per cent ) trading firm. On the flip side, FMCG and metals witnessed mild pressure.

Asian Paints (-0.91 per cent ), Ultratech Cement (-0.70 per cent ), BEL (-0.54 per cent ), and Tata Steel (-0.43 per cent ) were among the top laggards, while TMPV slipped sharply by 4.83 per cent.

Broader markets outperformed the frontline indices. The Nifty Midcap 50 gained 0.84 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 50 rose 0.63 per cent, reflecting strong investor appetite in the mid- and small-cap segments.

Sectorally, Nifty PSU Bank emerged as the top gainer with a 1.09 per cent jump, followed by Nifty Auto (+0.85 per cent ), Nifty Financial Services (+0.56 per cent ), and Nifty Realty (+0.45 per cent ). IT and FMCG indices saw marginal upticks, while metals remained flat.

Market participation remained broad-based. Out of 3,253 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,651 advanced, 1,523 declined, and 79 remained unchanged. Notably, 108 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while 145 touched 52-week lows, reflecting continued volatility beneath the surface.

Additionally, 98 stocks were locked in upper circuits, and 110 in lower circuits, indicating active movement across segments.

India’s total market capitalisation on the NSE stood at Rs 471.87 lakh crore as of November 14, 2025, maintaining investor confidence despite global uncertainties.
