Jai Bala, CMT, Cashthechaos.com sees the broader market heading for record highs despite short-term indecision. “The markets are a bit indecisive, but a breakout above 26,325 could take Nifty to 29,000 faster. Even a temporary drop below 25,690 won’t change the medium-term outlook.”Metals: Bullish momentum continues in metals. “As long as the Nifty Metals Index stays above 10,000, it’s heading for 11,200 to 11,900.”Banking sector: Public sector banks are driving gains, but private banks need to participate. “Watch 57,628 – as long as pullbacks stay above this, banking could hit fresh record highs near 61,000.”
Indian equities closed largely flat after a choppy session on Tuesday, with losses in IT stocks offset by strength in select PSU, cement and mid-cap names. Coal India extended its winning streak, while Coforge slid sharply on fund-raise concerns.
The Sensex slipped 43 points to 85,525, while the Nifty edged up 5 points to end at 26,177, below the 26,200 mark. IT stocks snapped a four-day rally, led by losses in Coforge, Infosys and Persistent. Coal India rose 4% to top the Nifty, while broader markets stayed steady, with advances outpacing declines on the NSE.“Operationally, it has been a good year for Coforge. The company signed six deals in the first half. Beyond BFSI, the travel vertical is expected to perform well, as is life sciences. Management has also guided for a 14% exit EBIT margin. That is why stocks like Coforge and Persistent continue to trade at a premium,” Chadha said.He added that today’s correction appears more event-driven than fundamental. “The weakness is largely due to the fundraise and some uncertainty around how the capital will be deployed. That explains the market reaction. Otherwise, mid-cap IT could actually outperform, helped by a currency tailwind. We are slightly contrarian on IT services — we hold HCL Tech, are looking to add more to KPIT, and would not mind increasing exposure to Persistent or Coforge if there is a meaningful correction.”
