Stock Market Closing Bell: Indian stock markets ended Thursday’s session lower, following weak global cues after the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates as expected but signalled that it may be the final reduction for 2025.

Investor sentiment also turned cautious ahead of key updates from the ongoing US–China trade negotiations.

The BSE Sensex declined 593.87 points, or 0.70 per cent, to close at 84,403.26, while the Nifty 50 dropped 176.05 points, or 0.68 per cent, to end at 25,877.85.

Broader market indices showed mixed trends; the Nifty Midcap 50 rose 0.10 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap indices saw marginal declines of up to 0.13 per cent.

Sectorally, weakness was visible across the board. The Nifty Financial Services index fell 0.77 per cent, followed by Nifty Private Bank (-0.74 per cent), Nifty Bank (-0.61 per cent), and Nifty IT (-0.51 per cent).

Other key laggards included Nifty Pharma (-0.59 per cent), Nifty FMCG (-0.48 per cent), and Nifty Metal (-0.45 per cent).

However, Nifty Energy (+0.12 per cent) and Nifty Realty (+0.04 per cent) managed to end in positive territory, providing some support to the otherwise weak market sentiment.

Among individual stocks on the Sensex, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) led the gainers’ list with a 0.90 per cent rise, followed by Bharat Electronics (BEL) up 0.74 per cent, UltraTech Cement up 0.46 per cent, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) gaining 0.32 per cent.

Maruti Suzuki, Titan, and Adani Ports also ended with marginal gains between 0.19 per cent and 0.29 per cent.

On the flip side, heavyweights such as Bharti Airtel (-1.54 per cent), Power Grid (-1.35 per cent), Tech Mahindra (-1.33 per cent), and Infosys (-1.18 per cent) dragged the market lower.

Other notable losers included Reliance Industries (-0.96 per cent), HDFC Bank (-0.80 per cent), Sun Pharma (-0.87 per cent), Bajaj Finance (-0.90 per cent), and ICICI Bank (-0.55 per cent).

In the broader indices, Nifty 100 slipped 0.60 per cent, Nifty 200 was down 0.51 per cent, and Nifty 500 fell 0.46 per cent.

The Nifty Midcap Select index managed to stay in the green with a 0.27 per cent gain, while the Nifty Total Market Index declined 0.45 per cent.
