Cloudflare outage knocks X, ChatGPT, Spotify and more; major platforms face hours-long downtime

Cloudflare Outage Update: A massive Cloudflare outage on Tuesday triggered widespread disruption across major websites and apps, leaving millions unable to access platforms such as X, ChatGPT, Spotify, Perplexity, Canva, and even Snapchat.

The incident took place around 5.20 pm IST, when X, the microblogging platform owned by Elon Musk, experienced a massive outage affecting thousands of users in India and around the globe. Over 10,000 users reported issues, with problems accessing feeds, websites, logging in, and server connections.

The outage is linked to Cloudflare, which provides internet infrastructure to X. Users saw "internal server error on Cloudflare's network" messages, and some pages loaded on refresh, but most users were unable to access the platform

Cloudflare confirmed that its network was experiencing a “widespread issue” affecting multiple services. The company has begun remediation, though access remains unstable for many users.

Shortly, users across several countries reported problems loading X, viewing ChatGPT responses, streaming on Spotify, or accessing Perplexity and Gemini. Many services displayed messages stating that Cloudflare could not process the request. Even Downdetector—the outage-tracking website that relies on Cloudflare’s infrastructure—struggled to load before eventually displaying a sharp spike in reports for X, Spotify, and other platforms.

Platforms affected include:

Cloudflare acts as a backbone for large swathes of the internet—managing DNS, routing traffic, supporting content delivery, and shielding websites from DDoS attacks. A single point of failure in its network can ripple across hundreds of unrelated websites at once, as seen today.

The company confirmed that the outage was linked to internal server errors across its network. Cloudflare’s dashboard and API were also affected, preventing companies from using its management tools.

ChatGPT also went down around the same time. OpenAI acknowledged the disruption but did not confirm whether the issue was directly tied to Cloudflare.

X users reported blank timelines or “something went wrong” error messages. Bet365 users saw warnings saying they were blocked—a result of Cloudflare’s malfunction rather than any account-level enforcement. League of Legends players also experienced connectivity issues.

In several regions, users attempting to load platforms saw Cloudflare-generated error screens advising them to retry after some time.

Cloudflare stated that some services were showing signs of recovery but cautioned that high error rates may continue until full remediation is complete. The company has not issued a firm timeline on when all services will return to normal.

As of now the services continue to see disruption across platforms. In its latest update, Cloudflare said its Global Network is still experiencing issues but confirmed that Access and WARP services have recovered after internal changes were implemented. Error levels for these users have returned to pre-incident levels, and WARP access in London has been re-enabled. The company added that work is ongoing to restore all remaining affected services.
