Congress takes down 'Gayab' post after facing severe backlash from BJP leaders

Published on 30/04/2025 10:34 AM

After facing severe backlash, the Congress has deleted its post featuring an old photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his face edited out and a caption that read, "In times of need, missing”.

The Congress post was seen as a jibe at PM Modi’s absence in the all-party meet to discuss the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that cost 26 lives.

However, the BJP alleged that it was a “sar tan se juda” imagery and an attempt to weaken India. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said that the Congress deleted the imagery post due to pressure from the people of India.

"Under Pressure from people of India the Congress party deletes its 'Sar Tan Se Juda' imagery tweet! This will not hide the Anti National Pro Pakistan Characteristic of Congress!," he said in a post on X.

The Congress defended the post through Tuesday, arguing that it did not show anyone's name or face. However, with the image going viral on social media, the party deleted it on Tuesday evening.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said the post once again exposed the sincerity of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge's and party leader Rahul Gandhi’s claim of supporting the Centre in responding to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.

"This is not an innocent post by Congress. It is a sinister design to weaken the integrity of Bharat," he told a presser. "On one hand, PM Modi and the Army have taken a vow to destroy the power which has looked at India with an evil eye, while on the other, it's the evil of terror, demonic power... Pakistan's thinking and Congress's thinking," Bhatia alleged, mocking Congress as "Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress".

According to News18, AICC Chairperson Social Media & Digital Platforms Supriya Shrinate said that the post was inspired by the poster of a film, ‘Gayab’, which starred Tusshar Kapoor. After the controversy, Congress reiterated that its guideline should be followed by all leaders and social media handles. The party said that disciplinary action will be taken against those who violate its directive.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the entire opposition was supporting the measures being taken by the government in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

“There was a terror attack in Pahalgam a few days ago. You must have heard of the same. We have made it clear to the government that the entire opposition is with you. Take whatever action you want to,” Gandhi said while addressing booth level workers of the party at Dalmau in Rae Bareli on Tuesday.

Gandhi has also written to the Prime Minister Narendra stating that the incident had outraged every Indian. He demanded that a special session of parliament be convened at the earliest to discuss the terror attack and demonstrate a collective resolve.
