Enhancing maritime security capabilities, the Indian Navy on Tuesday (July 8) received its first indigenously designed and built Diving Support Vessel (DSV) – Nistar.
The vessel was handed over by Visakhapatnam-based public sector undertaking Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL). The sip will play a crucial role in underwater rescue operations, especially in rescuing and evacuating submarine personnel during emergencies beneath the sea.

The project is aligned with the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives to strength indigenous technological capabilities.
The name ‘Nistar’ is derived from Sanskrit, meaning liberation, rescue, or salvation.
