Dehradun–Tanakpur Express to run three times a week: Ministry of Railways

The Ministry of Railways has approved a proposal to increase the frequency of the Dehradun–Tanakpur Express (Train No. 15019/15020) from once a week to three times a week. In a letter addressed to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the train will now operate thrice weekly, providing more convenience to passengers travelling between Dehradun and the Kumaon region, IANS reported.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the announcement, calling it a “significant, public-welfare-oriented gift for the people of Uttarakhand.” He said the increased frequency will offer more regular and accessible rail connectivity between the two regions.
He further added that the move will not only strengthen transport and tourism links between Garhwal and Kumaon but also boost economic and social activities across the state. The chief minister thanked the Railway Minister, noting that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government continues to support Uttarakhand’s progress.

Chief Minister Dhami said, "I sincerely thank Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji for accepting the long-standing demand of Uttarakhand residents and approving the increase in the frequency of the Dehradun–Tanakpur Express."
He added, "This decision will greatly benefit the people, students, tourists, and traders of the border Kumaon region. The State Government is committed to improving transport connectivity across every part of Uttarakhand. This is our pledge towards a developed Uttarakhand."

A few months ago, Chief Minister Dhami had formally written to the railway minister requesting an increase in the train’s frequency. Responding positively, the Ministry of Railways has now approved the proposal to make it a tri-weekly service.
The enhanced schedule is expected to significantly improve mobility between Uttarakhand’s hilly and border areas and the rest of India, providing a major boost to tourism and trade in the state.
