Delhi govt's big decision for construction workers hit by GRAP curbs, announces Rs 10,000 compensation: Check details

“With construction activity fully stopped under GRAP-3, labourers were among the worst affected. Keeping this in mind, the Labour Ministry has decided to provide Rs 10,000 as compensation to all registered and verified construction workers through direct benefit transfer,” Mishra said.

The minister added that the government is also tracking the impact of GRAP-4, which has brought even tighter restrictions to curb deteriorating air quality. “When GRAP-4 is withdrawn, the number of days it remained in force will be calculated and compensation will be extended to registered construction workers,” he said.

Mishra urged construction workers to complete their registration and verification process on the Delhi government portal at the earliest to ensure timely financial assistance. He assured that applications would be verified on priority so that eligible workers do not face delays in receiving compensation.

“I appeal to all construction workers to register themselves as soon as possible. We are committed to ensuring that no worker — male or female — suffers economic hardship due to pollution-related shutdowns,” the minister said.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Mishra said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed departments to ensure that workers’ livelihoods are protected whenever construction activity is suspended due to environmental measures.

The announcement comes at a time when Delhi continues to battle severe air pollution, with GRAP restrictions remaining a key tool to control emissions. While the curbs are aimed at improving air quality, the government said worker welfare would remain a parallel priority during such shutdowns.
