A Patna-bound SpiceJet flight had to return to Delhi soon after take-off on Thursday, October 23, airline sources said. Flight SG 497 from Delhi to Patna experienced a technical issue during the flight, prompting the pilot to take precautionary measures and return the plane to the national capital.
A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed that all passengers on board were safe and the plane landed back in Delhi without incident. Also, an alternative flight has been arranged for the stranded passengers, departing at 11:30 am, airline sources added.
"On October 23, 2025, SpiceJet flight SG 487 operating from Delhi to Patna returned back to Delhi after take off due to a technical issue. The aircraft made a normal landing and passengers were deplaned normally," a SpiceJet spokesperson said in a statement.
"An alternate aircraft was arranged to accommodate the passengers, which is now enroute to Patna," he added.
A similar incident had occurred two months prior, when a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Srinagar had to make an emergency landing due to a mid-air cabin pressure warning. According to the airline, flight SG 385 experienced a rapid descent during approach following the warning.
"On August 29, 2025, SpiceJet flight SG 385 operating from Delhi to Srinagar experienced a rapid descent during approach following a rise in cabin altitude, which triggered a cabin altitude warning. The crew carried out all necessary checks in accordance with standard operating procedures, and the Captain requested priority landing as a precautionary measure," a SpiceJet spokesperson said in a statement.
Additionally, last month, a SpiceJet flight bound for Kathmandu at Delhi airport also experienced a suspected tailpipe fire but returned safely. This incident involved flight number SG041, which was operated by a Boeing 737-8 aircraft. The flight was scheduled to leave in the morning but was delayed for more than four hours.
“On September 11, a SpiceJet aircraft scheduled to operate from Delhi to Kathmandu returned to bay after another aircraft on the ground reported a suspected tailpipe fire,” the airline said in a statement.
“No warnings or indications were observed in the cockpit, but the pilots decided to return as a precautionary safety measure,” it added.
