This Diwali, the Indian stock market is offering investors several opportunities across different sectors. Ridham Desai, MD at Morgan Stanley India, recently shared his insights on sector-wise growth and how investors can make their portfolios stronger.

Desai said, “Some sectors are likely to see strong growth over the next 12-18 months. Investing in the right sectors now can provide good long-term returns.”

According to Desai, the banking sector is set for growth. “Loan demand is increasing, and non-performing assets are under control. This makes banking stocks attractive for the next year. Domestic investors can consider adding quality banks to their portfolios.”

The consumer sector is also showing strong demand. Desai explained, “Indian consumers are spending more, which benefits FMCG companies. Higher consumption leads to better earnings and stronger stock valuations in this sector.”

The IT sector, particularly companies serving global clients, is performing well. Desai noted, “Indian IT companies have strong deals with global tech firms. Software and services companies are expected to continue growing, making them attractive for investment.”

Government spending and private projects are boosting the infrastructure sector. Desai said, “Infrastructure companies with strong project pipelines are well-positioned. This sector offers long-term opportunities for investors looking for steady growth.”

The pharma sector is also expected to grow. Desai highlighted, “Indian healthcare companies are strong both domestically and in export markets. Investors can find stable and long-term opportunities in this sector.”

Desai advised investors not to focus only on popular stocks but to look at sector-wise opportunities as well. “Some sectors are growing rapidly. Investing in the right sectors at the right time can strengthen your portfolio and provide better long-term returns.”

For Diwali 2025, investors can use this advice to diversify their portfolios and prepare for long-term growth.
