US President Donald Trump has taken to microblogging service Truth Social once again to make a major announcement, naming Sergio Gor as the next US Ambassador to India. Describing Gor as a “great friend” and longtime ally, Trump emphasised his deep trust in Gor to advance the administration’s agenda in the world’s most populous region. Gor will also be Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

Currently, Gor is serving as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office. He has worked on Trump’s historic presidential campaigns, published his best-selling books, and managed one of the largest super political action committees (PACs) supporting the “America First” movement, according to the US president. 

Lauding Gor’s efforts as Director of Presidential Personnel, Trump highlighted that Gor and his team have rapidly hired nearly 4,000 “America First Patriots” across every department of the federal US government. The President also claimed that departments and agencies are now over 95 per cent staffed in record time.

Gor will continue in his current role at the White House until his formal confirmation.

Congratulating Gor in his Truth Social post, Trump expressed confidence that Gor “will make an incredible Ambassador”.

"Sergio’s role as Director of Presidential Personnel has been essential to delivering on the unprecedented Mandate that we received from the American People. For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador. Congratulations Sergio!" wrote Trump. 

An ambassador to a foreign country serves as the highest-ranking official representation of their home government in the host nation, with key roles and responsibilities including representing their country's interests abroad, and in maintaining their diplomatic relations.

Ambassadors promote their home nation’s policies, values and interests while protecting the rights and welfare of their citizens residing or traveling in the host country.

An ambassador also acts as the primary point of contact between the home government and the host nation, performing a host of tasks, including negotiating pacts, treaties, trade deals, and cooperation on a range of issues like security.
