S-400 Latest News: In a major update to India’s air defence preparedness, top Ministry of Defence (MoD) sources have confirmed to Zee Business that the country is set to receive the fourth S-400 Triumf air defence system from Russia in February 2026, with the fifth and final unit scheduled for delivery in August 2026. India had signed a high-profile contract with Russia in October 2018 for the acquisition of five S-400 Triumf systems, valued at approximately $5.43 billion.

The deal, viewed as a cornerstone of the country’s strategic air defence capabilities, had faced delays owing to global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical developments, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

According to MoD sources, three S-400 units have already been delivered and are fully deployed at strategic locations across India. These systems are currently operational and integrated into the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) layered air defence network.

During recent operations and heightened alert scenarios, the S-400s have played a crucial role in bolstering India’s aerial security, offering a powerful shield against enemy aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones. Capable of tracking and neutralising multiple aerial targets at ranges up to 400 km, the S-400 is among the most advanced long-range air defence systems in the world.

The arrival of the fourth and fifth units will complete India’s contracted S-400 fleet, significantly enhancing its ability to deter and defend against high-speed aerial threats across multiple fronts, including from adversaries in the north and west.

The deployment is also a key step in India’s vision to establish a robust multi-layered air defence architecture, combining indigenous systems with imported platforms to ensure 24/7 surveillance and rapid response capabilities.

With the final S-400 units expected by mid-2026, India will further solidify its position as a major military power in the region with cutting-edge strategic deterrence capabilities.
