Stock Market Closing Bell: The Indian equity market closed in the green on Wednesday, supported by optimism over an earlier-than-expected India–US trade deal and gains in select sectors.

The BSE Sensex settled 313.02 points or 0.38 per cent higher at 82,693.71, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed at 25,330.25, up 91.15 points or 0.36 per cent.

In the broader markets, the Nifty SmallCap 100 index rose 0.68 per cent, and the Nifty MidCap 100 index added 0.08 per cent. Sectorally, PSU Bank emerged as the top gainer with a jump of 2.61 per cent, followed by IT (0.65 per cent) and oil & gas (0.63 per cent). On the flip side, metal and consumer durables declined 0.50 per cent and 0.30 per cent, respectively.

Among stocks, SBI, BEL and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the top gainers on the BSE, while ITC, Titan and Bajaj Finserv were among the key drags.
