First Trade: Market opens flat; Sensex dips 93 pts to 80,925, Nifty slips 16 pts to 24,706

Market opening bell: The Indian stock market started the day on a quiet note on Tuesday. The Nifty50 opened just a tiny bit lower at 24,720.25, down by only 2.5 points or 0.01 per cent from yesterday’s close. The Sensex also slipped a little, opening at 80,946.43, down around 72 points.

Even though global markets were mostly positive, Indian stocks showed some hesitation in early trade. By mid-morning, the Sensex had dropped about 93 points to 80,925, and the Nifty was down 16 points at 24,706.

There was decent activity on the bourses, with roughly 1,400 shares gaining, about 850 falling, and a handful unchanged.

On the brighter side, stocks like Jio Financial, SBI, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, and Hindalco were holding their ground and inching higher. On the other hand, SBI Life Insurance, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, Tech Mahindra, and ICICI Bank saw some selling pressure.

Paytm, Aurobindo Pharma, Aditya Infotech, Laxmi India Finance, DLF, Siemens Energy, Inox India, Godfrey Phillips, and Azad Engineering—they’re expected to be in the spotlight today.
