Sanjay Kumar is appointed as the new Executive Director at SpiceJet, indicating a major step in the airline’s transformation and growth process. Sanjay Kumar will be responsible for leading the company’s expansion, operational efficiency, and business strategy in his new position, and will report to Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh directly.
This fresh appointment is remarkably timely for SpiceJet, which is determined to muddy the waters with a picture of strong operations, enhanced profits, and market momentum recovery at the same time. With his extensive experience in handling low-cost carriers (LCCs) and strategic planning, Kumar is anticipated to be a key factor in the airline’s sustainable growth
Sanjay Kumar has a vast experience of more than 25 years in the aviation industry, with skills in various areas of business planning, network development, marketing, sales, and airline strategy. His career kicked off in 1991 with Air Sahara where he progressed to the position of Chief Manager—Marketing and Sales. Subsequently, he moved to Royal Airways (currently SpiceJet) as General Manager-Marketing and Sales, and played a key role in developing and implementing the low-cost carrier model for India in 2005.
At IndiGo, he served as Chief Commercial Officer from 2007 to 2018, Kumar played a central role in the airline’s massive growth, expanding from just six aircraft to a 174-aircraft fleet and capturing a 42 per cent market share. He later served as Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer, overseeing commercial operations, network planning, and revenue management.
Sanjay Kumar has previously held key leadership positions at InterGlobe Technology Quotient and AirAsia India, IndiGo, AirAsia India. Through working with major airlines he has gained a thorough understanding of the challenges and benefits of the aviation industry.

Earlier, Private sector airline SpiceJet said past week that it has inducted Boeing 737 aircraft to its fleet while ungrounding a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The development, part of the airline's aggressive winter expansion plan, takes the total additions to its fleet to five this month. Typically, the country's festive season, generally beginning in October and ending in February, sees additional demand for tourism-related bookings such as flights and accommodations.
