Ganga Jayanti 2025: Ganga Jayanti, also known as Ganga Saptami or Ganga Pujan, will be observed on Saturday, May 3, 2025. This sacred day is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, the divine river believed to purify sins and bestow blessings upon her devotees. The occasion marks the rebirth of Goddess Ganga, making it a deeply revered and spiritually significant event in the Hindu calendar.

Ganga Jayanti 2025 Date and Time 

While Ganga Dussehra commemorates the descent of Ganga to Earth, Ganga Saptami marks a later divine event in her journey. According to sacred texts, when the holy river was on her way to fulfill King Bhagiratha’s mission to cleanse the souls of his ancestors, her powerful flow disrupted the ashram of Sage Jahnu. Angered, the sage drank the entire river.

Moved by the prayers of Bhagiratha and the gods, Sage Jahnu later released Ganga from his ear. This act of release occurred on the Saptami tithi (seventh day) of the Shukla Paksha in the Vaishakha month, which is now observed as Ganga Saptami or Jahnu Saptami. Since then, Ganga is also lovingly known as Jahnavi, the daughter of Rishi Jahnu.

Ganga Jayanti 2025: Rituals and Significance

On Ganga Jayanti, devotees gather along the banks of the Ganges River and other sacred water bodies to perform special pujas, aartis, and ritual baths. Bathing in the holy river on this day is believed to wash away sins, cleanse the mind and body, and bring spiritual upliftment.

Temples dedicated to Goddess Ganga host vibrant celebrations, and hymns praising her divine qualities are recited. Devotees also offer flowers, lamps, and sweets to the river, seeking her blessings for peace, prosperity, and liberation.

Ganga Jayanti is more than a ritual—it is a reminder of the divine grace and the purifying power of faith. As the faithful celebrate her rebirth, the river continues to be a symbol of life, purity, and devotion for countless generations.
