His remarks come against the backdrop of massive Gen-Z protests in Nepal that began during the government led by KP Sharma Oli, following the decision to ban 26 social media platforms. The move was widely viewed as an attempt to silence political dissent and eventually led to Oli’s resignation.

Meanwhile, the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Karnataka responded to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of voter deletions, stating that all incorrect applications had been rejected and an FIR was filed in 2023.
According to the statement, the ERO in Aland received 6,018 Form 7 applications in December 2022 through apps such as NVSP, VHA, and GARUDA. Upon verification, only 24 were found to be genuine, while 5,994 were deemed incorrect and rejected.
The Karnataka CEO further clarified that an FIR was lodged with the Inspector of Police, Aland Police Station, in February 2023, and the matter was handed over to the Superintendent of Police, Kalaburagi district, in September 2023 for further investigation.
Earlier in August, Gandhi alleged that he had uncovered a “massive voter deletion scam” targeting millions of voters across India. However, he stopped short of releasing the promised “hydrogen bomb” of evidence, giving Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar a one-week deadline to respond.
Referring to the Aland case, Gandhi said: “We don't know the total number of votes that were deleted in Aland… It is much higher than 6,018. But somebody got caught. And it was caught like most crimes, by a coincidence.”
He further alleged that deletion attempts were concentrated in booths where the Congress was winning, citing the case of a woman named Godabai. Gandhi said someone created fake logins in her name to attempt deleting 12 voters. “Godabai has no idea,” he added.
The Election Commission of India strongly refuted Gandhi’s allegations, calling them “incorrect and baseless.” It stressed: “No deletion of any vote can be done online by any member of the public, as misconceived by Shri Rahul Gandhi.”
