Indian Railways has started a pilot project introducing blanket covers for travellers who commute in AC coaches. The project, inaugurated by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, is designed to increase hygiene and put blanket cleanliness concerns to rest.
"Today, a new initiative has been started in the railways, which is an attempt to bring a major change in the lives of passengers. The use of blankets in the railway system has always been there, but there has always been a doubt regarding the blankets, and to eliminate that, the arrangement of blanket covers has been started in one train as a pilot program from Jaipur railway station", Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. (ANI reported)
He further added that, "If this experiment is successful, it will be extended across the country; at the same time, facilities should also be increased at small stations, especially the height of the platform, signboards, and information systems."
This is one of the steps taken by Indian Railways to upgrade passenger amenities and services.
Blanket cover specifications:
a) Clean covers: Passengers will be provided with blankets covered with clean covers.
b) Washable or disposable: Covers are of washable material and will be replaced after each journey.
c) Safe packaging: Covers are sealed with Velcro or zip locks to ensure cleanliness.
The railway minister also said that a pilot project using Sanganeri print fabric, selected for its durability and easy washing, has been initiated, with plans to incorporate traditional prints from different states across the railway system based on experimental results.
Route: Jaipur-Ahmedabad train
Expansion: On its success, the program will be replicated to other trains in the country.
a) Enhanced hygiene: Prevents infection risk and provides a clean blanket to every passenger.
b) Passenger satisfaction growth: Offers reassurance and improves the entire travel experience.
c) Implementation across the country: With success and reviews, the system will be implemented across the country with enhanced features.
