Groom carries ailing bride for 'saat phere' as MP hospital turns wedding venue. Watch

A government hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district witnessed an emotional moment on Wednesday, when it briefly transformed into a wedding venue for a couple determined to tie the knot despite the odds.

Aditya Singh and Nandini Solanki had planned to marry on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya, a date long considered favourable for new beginnings. However, their plans took an unexpected turn when Nandini fell seriously ill just a week before the scheduled wedding. She was initially admitted to a hospital in her hometown of Kumbhraj, but as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred first to Binaganj, approximately 25 kilometres away, and later to a hospital in Biaora, a further 50 kilometres from the original location.

Although her condition gradually stabilised, doctors advised complete bed rest, ruling out any possibility of a traditional wedding. According to a report in The Times of India, the next suitable muhurta for the ceremony would not arrive for another two years. Faced with this long delay, both families decided to proceed with the wedding at the hospital itself.

Hospital authorities gave their full support to the couple’s decision. The Outpatient Department (OPD) was cleared and modestly decorated for the occasion. While Aditya arrived with his baraat or wedding party, the customary band-baaja was respectfully omitted so as not to disturb other patients in the hospital.

The wedding rituals commenced at approximately 1 am, under the careful supervision of attending doctors and nurses. In a moving moment, when it came time for the saat phere—the traditional seven rounds around the sacred fire—Aditya lifted Nandini in his arms and carried her through each round. Relatives, visibly emotional, showered the couple with flower petals as they completed the ceremony.

A video of the hospital wedding soon surfaced online, evoking a strong response from viewers. The setting and the couple’s determination to go ahead with their marriage despite severe challenges struck a chord with many across the country.

Doctors at the hospital confirmed that Nandini had been admitted in a serious condition just seven days earlier, but that she was now on the path to recovery. The wedding, they said, was conducted with due precautions and with full medical oversight.
