On Tuesday, the US administration announced a 50 per cent tariff on the commodity, after having levied similar levy on other metals including steel and aluminium.

However, with respect to tariffs on copper, there has been no specification with regard to the timeline.

The tariff implication will be crucial for India as it in the preivous year 2024-25 exported a sizable $2 billion worth of copper and its products, with the US contributing for $360 million, or 17 per cent, of the total.

Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi noted that the implication of a tariff on copper import will be negative for wire and cables stock like KEI Industriues.
