Retro, which has Suriya play the lead role, also has an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram and Karunakaran. This gangster drama is directed by Karthik Subbaraj.

Based on the positive feedback after the recently released trailer, which went viral, the film generated a lot of buzz. Suriya 44 is being co-produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Films, while Santhosh Narayanan will be scoring the music.

Pooja Hegde has been making headlines for multiple reasons in recent times, and her recent promotions for Retro have taken the internet by storm. For this film, Pooja Hegde had recently increased her fee.

The actress, as per the news published in The Republic, charged Rs 4 crore for Retro. This bit of a brave move and a big leap for her and her growing demand in the South.

A Resurgence in Tamil Cinema

Pooja Hegde began her career with a Tamil film, Mysskin’s Mask, but she gained fame down South in Telugu cinema. She soon emerged as a hot favourite, having worked with A-list stars such as Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR. She returned again to Tamil cinema a decade later with Nelson Dilip Kumar's Beast (opposite Thalapathy Vijay), which, however, failed to draw the excitement it expected.

The last few years haven’t been that good at the box office for the actress, as films like Radhe Shyam, Acharya, and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan failed to create box office impact. Nevertheless, her role in Suriya 44 is reportedly being described as a big one, which might bring her back in the game.

What’s Next for Suriya?

Suriya has the much-delayed Vaadivaasal, directed by Vetrimaaran, in his kitty. He also has a film with Venky Atluri and Sithara Entertainments in the pipeline.
