A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck northwestern Ecuador on Friday, the United States Geological Survey said.
The quake struck the border province of Esmeraldas at a depth of 35 kilometers (22 miles) around 6:45 am local time (1145 GMT), with tremors felt as far away as the capital Quito. It was not immediately known whether there were casualties or damage.
