The day-ahead market (DAM) posted a modest 3% YoY rise with volumes touching 4,231 MU in April 2025 compared to 4,116 MUs in the same month last year. In contrast, the real-time electricity market (RTM) saw a sharp 48% YoY rise to 3,893 MU from 2,629 MU.
Volumes in the day ahead contingency and term-ahead market (TAM), which includes contingency, daily, weekly, and monthly contracts up to three months, climbed 28% YoY to 1,639 MU from 1,276 MU.

The green market recorded significant traction, with volumes nearly doubling to 782 MU in April 2025, compared to 402 MU a year earlier, a 95% YoY increase. The green day-ahead market (G-DAM) registered a weighted average price of ₹4.07 per unit during the month.
Additionally, the exchange facilitated trading of 2.90 lakh renewable energy certificates (RECs) during sessions held on April 9 and April 30. Clearing prices stood at ₹300 per REC in the first session and ₹350 per REC in the second.
According to government data published in April 2025, the country's energy consumption reached 147.5 BUs (billion units), an increase of 2.2% compared to the previous year. On April 25, 2025, peak demand reached 235 GW, surpassing the maximum peak demand of 224 GW recorded in April 2024.
