Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday said that Bharat is on track to become a major global player in the complete electronics ecosystem. This includes electronics design, manufacturing, operating systems, applications, materials, and equipment.
In a post on social media platform X, the minister said that the country’s fast progress reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Make in India and India’s goal of becoming a producer economy instead of just a consumer market. In a major milestone for PM @narendramodi Ji’s 'Make in India' and our quest to become a producer economy, Apple ships $50 billion worth mobile phones in 2025.

Highlighting a major achievement, Vaishnaw said that Apple has shipped mobile phones worth $50 billion from India in 2025. He called it a key milestone in India’s electronics manufacturing journey.
Ashwini Vaishnaw said electronics production in India has grown six times in the last 11 years, while electronics exports have increased eight times under PM Modi’s leadership. Due to this growth, electronics products are now among India’s top three export items.
“This progress shows the strength of India’s electronics ecosystem,” Vaishnaw said, adding that global companies are now trusting India as a manufacturing base.
Vaishnaw also shared details about the growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem in the country. He said 46 electronics component manufacturing projects are currently underway. These include factories making parts for laptops, servers, and hearable devices.
According to him, electronics manufacturing has become a major driver of India’s manufacturing economy. He also announced that four semiconductor plants will begin commercial production this year, which is a big step for India’s chip-making ambitions.
The minister said the electronics sector has already created 25 lakh jobs across the country. Many factories now employ more than 5,000 workers at one location, while some large plants have as many as 40,000 employees.
“This is just the beginning,” Vaishnaw said, pointing to even faster growth ahead.
Last week, the electronics industry welcomed the government’s approval of 22 new projects under the third tranche of the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).
With this approval, the total number of ECMS projects has risen to 46, with cumulative investments crossing Rs 54,500 crore. Earlier, seven projects worth Rs 5,532 crore were approved in October, followed by 17 projects worth Rs 7,172 crore in November.
The IT Ministry said the 22 new projects are expected to generate Rs 2.58 lakh crore worth of production and create 33,791 direct jobs.
Industry leaders said the fast approvals show strong confidence in India’s electronics manufacturing vision and its future as a global electronics hub.
