Published on 13/07/2025 06:15 PM

Indian Railways on Sunday announced that CCTV cameras will be installed in all coaches and locomotives. This decision aims to improve onboard monitoring, prevent unlawful activities, and ensure a safer travel experience.

According to the plan, CCTV cameras will be installed in all 74,000 passenger coaches and 15,000 locomotives across the railway network. Each coach will be fitted with four dome cameras, while every locomotive will have six cameras.

These will be placed in common areas, such as entry/exit points and corridors for passengers privacy while keeping watch on suspicious activity.

This measure reflects the Railways’ commitment to adopting modern technology for public safety.

The cameras will perform reliably in low-light conditions and at speeds exceeding 100 kmph to get clear footage at all times.

The system will also use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for intelligent surveillance to detect unusual behaviour and alert authorities in real time.
