Improved air connectivity and targeted tourism campaigns have lifted Indian travel to Germany to record levels, with over 520,000 overnight stays between January and July 2025, according to figures shared by the German National Tourist Office (GNTO, India), IANS reported. The growth cements Germany's position among the top three European destinations for Indian visitors.

The GNTO said flight capacity between India and Germany in 2024 reached 26 per cent of pre-pandemic 2019 levels, signalling a strong recovery. Arrivals from India in the first seven months of 2025 rose 5.5 per cent compared with the same period last year.

"India is, without a doubt, a crucial market for Destination Germany. The year-on-year growth and the pace of recovery we are witnessing are extremely encouraging," said Romit Theophilus, Director, Marketing and Sales Office - India, GNTO.

Indian travellers are among the most valuable visitor groups in Germany. The GNTO estimated turnover from Indian guests at €1.1 billion in 2024, with an average trip expenditure of €3,068. The figures cover both leisure and business travel, underlining the depth of the market.

"The impressive travel figure is a testament to Germany's growing appeal and the increasing desire of Indian travellers to explore its diverse offerings," the GNTO said.

To sustain growth, the GNTO will launch fresh campaigns aimed at showcasing Germany's culture, nature and experiences beyond traditional tourist trails. Planned initiatives include collaborations with Indian celebrities who will explore and film Germany's less-discovered destinations for Indian audiences. Tourism officials say the mix of historic cities, natural landscapes and modern culture is resonating strongly, with demand expected to continue rising in the months ahead.
