The exports of India’s electronics in the April-November period of this fiscal (FY26) went up by around 38 per cent year-on-year (YoY), led by smartphones, according to official data.
In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, the export value of electronics was $31 billion. Almost $14 billion worth of iPhones were exported by Apple, which accounted for more than 45 per cent of the total export value of electronic goods.
According to a company filing, last month, Apple India made a record high domestic sales of $9 billion in FY25, thus indicating that 20 per cent of the total global production of iPhones was made or assembled in India in the fiscal year 2025. Apple’s Indian plant output was responsible for 12 per cent of the company’s total production value worldwide, IANS reported.
The production of electronics in India has skyrocketed from about Rs 1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to around Rs 11.3 lakh crore in 2024–25. Correspondingly, the government of India has reported that the value of electronics exports during the same period has also increased from Rs 38,000 crore to more than Rs 3.27 lakh crore.
In 2014-15, there were a mere two mobile phone manufacturing units in India, which have grown to about 300 units. Mobile phone production has risen from Rs 18,000 crore to Rs 5.45 lakh crore, and at the same time, exports have gone up from Rs 1,500 crore to nearly Rs 2 lakh crore.
On the other hand, the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) in 10 states with a total investment of Rs 1,46,846 crore are expected to create about 1.80 lakh employment opportunities.
Jitin Prasada, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, told Lok Sabha that 11 Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) and 2 Common Facility Centre (CFC) projects have been approved so far. During the week, in response to an inquiry, he disclosed that these developments encompass an area of 4,399.68 acres with a total project cost of Rs 5,226.49 crore, of which Rs 2,492.74 crore is Central financial assistance, IANS reported.
An investment commitment of Rs 1,13,000 crore has already been received from 123 land allottees (manufacturers) in the approved EMCs. Nine out of these units have started production and created an investment of Rs 12,569.69 crore with the generation of 13,680 jobs, the minister said.
