Passengers on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Kochi faced over a three-hour delay on Sunday morning after the aircraft developed a technical snag before take-off. The airline said all passengers were deboarded as a precaution and another aircraft was later arranged to operate the flight.
According to IndiGo, the crew detected the issue during pre-departure checks, following which engineers were called to assess the problem. The affected aircraft was taken to the bay for detailed inspection.
In a statement, IndiGo said: “All passengers were safely deplaned, and our team provided timely updates and refreshments during the delay. Another aircraft was deployed to ensure passengers reached their destination with minimal inconvenience.”
The airline added that passenger safety remained its highest priority and that standard operating procedures were followed throughout.
A day earlier, an IndiGo flight operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai following a security threat received via email. The flight, numbered 6E 68, landed safely in Mumbai, where all passengers were escorted off the aircraft while security agencies carried out detailed checks.
“Following the established protocol, relevant authorities were informed immediately, and thorough security inspections were conducted. We cooperated fully with the investigating agencies,” IndiGo said in a statement.
The airline also provided refreshments and regular updates to passengers during the process, reiterating that safety and security of customers and crew are its top priorities.
Officials have confirmed that a case has been registered to trace the source of the threat email. Security agencies are treating the matter seriously and continuing their investigation. While no explosives or suspicious materials were found on board, authorities said such threats are handled with utmost caution.
A senior aviation official said incidents like these highlight the importance of maintaining strict safety and security standards. “Technical glitches are part of regular operations, but when coupled with security concerns, they demand coordinated response from all stakeholders,” the official said.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, operates over 2,000 daily flights across domestic and international routes. The airline said it remains committed to maintaining operational reliability and ensuring passenger comfort despite unexpected disruptions.
“We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers and appreciate their understanding. Safety is at the core of everything we do,” IndiGo stated.
