IndiGo Mumbai–Phuket flight diverted to Chennai after mid-air security threat

An IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Phuket was diverted to Chennai on Friday night after a security threat was reported onboard.

Flight 6E 1089, which took off from Mumbai for Phuket, was rerouted midway and landed safely in Chennai, where it is undergoing a thorough security check. The airline said that all relevant authorities were immediately informed as per protocol.

Since Phuket airport operates under a night curfew, the onward journey has been rescheduled for later in the night. IndiGo said it is providing refreshments and regular updates to passengers.

“IndiGo flight 6E 1089 operating from Mumbai to Phuket on 19 September 2025 was diverted to Chennai due to a security threat noticed onboard. As per the established protocol, relevant authorities were informed immediately and the flight will undergo necessary security checks in Chennai," an IndiGo spokesperson said.

He added, "Owing to night curfew at the Phuket airport, resumption of the journey has been scheduled for later in the night. We are making all efforts to minimize inconvenience to customers including offering them refreshments and sharing regular updates with them. As always, safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft is our topmost priority."
