IndiGo will launch its first flights from the newly opened Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on December 25. The airline announced on Saturday that the airport will debut with connections to 10 major cities across the country.

The initial network will include flights to Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa (Mopa), Jaipur, Nagpur, Cochin and Mangalore. IndiGo added that more direct routes will be introduced gradually as operations ramp up.

NMIA, Mumbai’s second major airport, has been developed to share the load of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and meet the fast-growing demand for air travel in the region. The facility is expected to ease congestion while boosting overall aviation capacity in the financial capital.

IndiGo said connecting NMIA to its network of 95 domestic airports will strengthen regional connectivity and support broader economic activity in western India, given the airport’s strategic location.

Inaugurated last month by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the airport is being positioned as a key symbol of India’s infrastructure growth. PM Modi said the project will not only enhance Mumbai’s global links but also help farmers in Maharashtra access markets in Europe and the Middle East.

Built to handle both domestic and international travel, NMIA features modern terminals, a 3,700-metre runway designed for large aircraft, and advanced air traffic control systems. The airport is expected to play a major role in shaping Mumbai’s future as a leading aviation hub.
