Expectations were sky-high from Vaibhav Suryavanshi after his record century against Gujarat Titans. But against five-time champions Mumbai Indians, the 14-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener fell for a second-ball duck at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday.

Chasing the 218-run target set by MI, the Royals needed a brisk start to their run chase. But that was not to be as Suryavanshi fell on the fourth ball of the run chase. Deepak Chahar bowled a full delivery and Suryavanshi went for a big shot. But the bat turned in his hand and he mistimed it to mid-on for Will Jacks to take a good catch on the edge of the circle at mid-on.

As the MI cricketers celebrated the wicket, a shell-shocked Suryavanshi stood there with his hands on his hips, before walking off. And soon, memes started rolling on social media with fans showing their creativity and sense of humour:

Interestingly, during the match, former India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar had cautioned against giving Vaibhav too much credit for his knock against GT, despite the fact that world cricket was gushing about it.

Gavaskar had emphasized the need of carefully raising him under the cautious eye of Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Rajasthan Royals.

"Not at all, not at all. I mean, look — when he entered the auction, he had already scored a hundred against Australia in a youth Test, and that was against a pretty good attack. For a 13-year-old to score a hundred against an international team, albeit not their top side, still shows the lad had talent. And he has just gone on and on from there," Gavaskar told JioStar during the match between the Royals and Mumbai Indians.

"I think he's going to develop his game even more. Sitting with Rahul Dravid, he will learn how to temper his innings — he is only going to get better and better. I do believe that he is someone we shouldn't praise to the skies. But really, anyone who scores 50 or 60 in a T20 match has done well. To get a hundred at this level is absolutely magnificent, especially against the quality of bowlers he's facing today — literally some of the best in the world," Gavaskar added.
