With the commissioning of the second unit, the total commissioned capacity has increased to 160 MW, the company informed the stock exchanges in a filing on August 6.

Situated in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, the Kutehr Hydroelectric Power Plant is recognised as one of India’s fastest-developed greenfield hydro projects, the OP Jindal Group company said in the filing.

Power dispatch from the commissioned 160 MW capacity has already commenced to Haryana, marking a key milestone in the project’s development. The final 80 MW unit is expected to be commissioned shortly, the company said.

“The timing helps us to capitalise on high water inflows during the peak generation season and reinforces our strong project execution capabilities," Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, said.

The company commissioned the first 80 MW unit at the plant on August 4.

The entire 240 MW output from the Kutehr project is secured under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC), at a levelised ceiling tariff of ₹4.5 per kilowatt-hour.

The agreement, valid for 35 years, includes provisions for extension and will supply electricity to Haryana’s state distribution utilities — Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.

With this latest addition, JSW Energy's installed hydro capacity rises to 1,551 MW. The company also operates 2,157 MW of solar and 3,562 MW of wind capacity, taking its renewable energy share to 56%.

JSW Energy currently has a total locked-in generation capacity of 30.3 GW, which includes 12.9 GW operational and 12.8 GW under construction across thermal and renewable segments.

The company also holds 29.4 GWh of committed energy storage capacity, comprising 26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage and 3.0 GWh from battery energy storage systems.
