Karnataka High Court on Tuesday extended the deadline for bike taxi operators, including Rapido, to halt operations until June 15.
The court had earlier ordered all bike taxi services in the state to stop by mid-May, unless the government introduced a policy to regulate them. The April 2 order by Justice B M Shyam Prasad had given a six-week window to comply.
Seeking an extension, Rapido’s parent firm Roppen, along with Ola and Uber, told the Court that the state government is now exploring a comprehensive policy for bike taxis.
Roppen also highlighted that nearly six lakh drivers’ livelihoods would be impacted by a ban.
