Karwa Chauth bank holiday today: October 2025 is filled with festivals, resulting in several bank holidays across the country. Among the major celebrations this month is Karwa Chauth, being observed today, Friday, October 10, 2025. The festival holds deep significance for married Hindu women, particularly in northern India, who observe a fast for the long life and well-being of their husbands.

As per the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday schedule, banks will remain closed in Himachal Pradesh on October 10 due to Karwa Chauth. However, banks in other states will remain open and function as usual.

In India, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks follow the rule of observing public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, along with Sundays. The first, third, and fifth Saturdays (if any) are working days unless mentioned otherwise in the RBI’s official holiday list.

Karwa Chauth, also known as Karva Chauth, is a popular Hindu festival celebrated in October or November, during the month of Kartika according to the Bikram Sambat calendar. The festival occurs on the fourth day after the full moon. On this day, married women fast from sunrise to moonrise, praying for the long life and well-being of their husbands.

Banks will be closed on different days in various states for festivals such as Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja, Ayudhapooja, Vijayadashami, Karva Chauth, Lakshmi Puja, Kati Bihu, Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, Govardhan Puja, Balipadyami, Bhaidooj, Chhath Puja, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birthday.

While most regular transactions can be completed using internet or mobile banking, some services still need a branch visit. These include:

- Large cash deposits or withdrawals beyond ATM limits.

- Issuance of demand drafts (DDs) or pay orders above certain amounts.

- Cheque deposits or encashment, especially high-value or third-party cheques.

- Loan applications or closures.

- Dispute resolution for failed transactions requiring physical documentation.
