One of the year's most anticipated films, Kesari Chapter 2, is currently the subject of a controversy. Yahya Bootwala, a poet and lyricist, accused the film, which examines the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, of plagiarism after claiming that a scene from the movie was taken verbatim from his poem, Jallianwala Bagh.
Bootwala wrote the poem five years ago, and it was first posted on the Unerase Poetry YouTube channel.
The poet has since provided an update on the matter, stating that the problem has been fixed.
Yahya posted an update saying, “So dosto, the producers and I have managed to amicably solve the issue in the best interest of both parties. Thank you guys for your support in these 2 days, you guys have been very kind.”
Bootwala previously posted a video in which he contrasted his rendition of the poem with a line from Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2 performance.
He stated, "So @nisoooooooooorg sent me a clip 4 days back from the movie Kesari 2 of dialogues he felt were copied from my poem, titled Jallianwala Bagh, published 5 years ago on @unerasepoetry YouTube channel. Here are the two clips and honestly, this is a clear copy-paste.”
Bootwala was upset that Sumit Saxena, the dialogue writer, had utilised his work without giving him credit. He went on to say that it was a direct lifting of words, including the phrase phusphusana, rather than even a subtle reference.
The poet then called for action, asking his followers to tag important people like Ananya Panday, Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, and Karan Singh Tyagi. He made it clear that it was improper to use someone else's writing without their consent. He even made fun of Karan Johar by implying that he ought to get in touch with him directly for original dialogue.

On the box office front, as per Sacnilk, Kesari Chapter 2 is holding its own despite the controversy. Directed by debutant Karan Singh Tyagi, the film has received positive word-of-mouth and has been doing reasonably well, with a total collection of Rs 57.15 crore. The film, which also stars Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, has continued to perform steadily, even amid stiff competition from other releases like Jaat and Ground Zero.
